Party politics
Andrew W.K. is known for nothing if not for this versatility as a musician. Skillfully penning insightful lyrics ranging a wide variety of topics, W.K. has enthralled listeners with such songs as “Party Hard”, “It’s Time to Party”, “Long Live the Party”, “Big Party” and “Party ‘Til You Puke”.
Ok, so the guy likes to party. But apparently he can’t party too hard on Saturday night, because he’s got to be up early Sunday morning to watch The McLaughlin Group. Yes, that’s right, this man
watches The McLaughlin Group as exemplified by his new song called “The McLaughlin Groove”, which you can hear here.
The song is taken from a real exchange recorded a few weeks ago, between host John McLaughlin and regular guest and frequent loon Pat Buchanan:
MR. MCLAUGHLIN: Question: Does Romney’s endorsement seal the deal? Is McCain now the inevitable Republican nominee? I ask you, Pat.
MR. BUCHANAN: John, absent celestial intervention, I think he’s going to get the nomination.
MR. MCLAUGHLIN: Absent what?
MR. BUCHANAN: Celestial intervention.
MR. MCLAUGHLIN: Well, it happens, Pat. May he rest in peace, Paul Wellstone. John Heinz was killed in an airplane crash.
MR. BUCHANAN: Well, let’s not speculate on it.
MR. MCLAUGHLIN: Death comes in the night on cats’ paws, Pat. You never know.
MR. BUCHANAN: On little cats’ feet. That’s the fog, John, that comes in on little cats’ feet.
And while some might look at this as a departure from Andrew W.K.’s bread-and-butter party song, I believe it brings his career into new focus: He was singing about the Republican Party.
